Thanks for your feedback. I find the easiest way to work with the limited hours of unlimited data is a connection that will time out after the end of the unmetered data period each day. I use an outlet timer- the kind used for home security and christmas lights- but it is digital so I can set it to the minute.
Usually, I am using the unmetered period for video, and for my purposes I just plug our internet TV device into the timer so I can record a favorite online news stream overnight. Making sure the download stops exactly on the minute with a computer is a little more complicated--as computers have their own power source in the battery-- so for the purposes of downloading Windows Assuming that the comment here by Microsoft Support works the way I think it would-- but I don't think it does, you can set the computer to start the download at the beginning of the unmetered period, and set the timer to turn on several minutes before your download begins to allow it time to connect to your computer before the scheduled download is to begin and to shut down at the end of the free data period for that day.
Otherwise, you would have to be awake and set the computer to download it at the beginning of the free data period. The nice thing about the Windows 10 download is that it will stop the download if the connection is lost, but the downloaded data remains on your computer until you reconnect. That way, if the connection is too slow to download all you want one night, you can connect the next night again during the free data period.
But, this time, you will have to have kept the download window open, or you lose the previously downloaded data my oops from a couple nights ago, had to wait for a second notification that my Windows 10 was ready!!! If you want to have wireless running continuously for the rest of the house, you could buy a wireless network extender, and plug it into the timer, instead of your main router for the house.

About all you can do at this point is to change a metered connection and use Multiple accounts to help control when these occur. You could also upgrade to Windows 10 Pro which would give you a lot more control.
